Rolling back, or restoring, the Microsoft Windows operating system registry may be required for many reasons. A prerequisite for the successful restoration of the system's performance is the availability of administrator access to computer resources.
Instructions
Step 1
Restart the system and press the F8 function key to open the service menu for additional boot options for the Microsoft Windows operating system.
Step 2
Enter the Last Known Good Configuration command and confirm the command by pressing the Enter function key.
Step 3
Boot your computer from the installation disc and select the "System Restore" command.
Step 4
Select "Troubleshoot computer problems" in the "Advanced boot options" menu and confirm the command by pressing the function key Enter.
Step 5
Without leaving the recovery environment, invoke the Windows command interpreter to perform an alternative way to restore the system registry.
Step 6
Enter notepad in the command line text box and confirm launching Notepad by pressing the Enter function key.
Step 7
Simultaneously press the function keys Ctrl + O in the application window and select the "Computer" section in the left pane of the explorer window.
Step 8
Determine the value of the system drive name and navigate to the WindowsSystem32Config folder.
Step 9
Enter the value * (asterisk) in the "File name" field and confirm the execution of the command to display all files in the folder by pressing the Enter key.
Step 10
Use the F2 function key to change the extension of the unextended software and system files to software.bad and system.bad and navigate to the RegBack folder.
Step 11
Use the Ctrl + C function keys at the same time to create copies of files with the same names and paste the created copies into the config folder by pressing the Ctrl + V function keys at the same time.
Step 12
Remove corrupted software.bad and system.bad registry files and exit all programs.
Step 13
Restart your computer to apply the selected changes.
