It is customary to refer to a shortcut as a link to a file or application displayed by a graphical icon. An arrow in the lower left corner, which exists only in shortcuts, can serve as a visual distinction between the program icon and the shortcut. A program or file icon is a graphical representation of an object, while a shortcut only points to the selected object.
Instructions
Step 1
Make sure the difference between the shortcut and the icon of the selected object is clear and use the Properties function to define the characteristics of the desired shortcut.
Step 2
Call the context menu of the desired object by clicking the right mouse button and select the "Properties" command. Alternative methods of viewing the properties of the selected object can be: - selecting the desired object by clicking the mouse and opening the Properties menu of the toolbar of the Windows Explorer window or the folder containing the selected object; - Selecting the Properties item in the File menu of the upper toolbar of the window applications; - highlighting the desired object by clicking the mouse and simultaneously pressing the Alt + Enter function keys.
Step 3
Go to the "General" tab of the shortcut properties dialog box that opens and define: - the name and picture of the shortcut; - the type of object referenced by the shortcut; - the full path to the object; - the parameters of the object; - the parameters of the folder containing the object.
Step 4
Click the Shortcut tab and click the Find Object button at the bottom of the shortcut properties dialog box to perform the operation to launch the folder containing the selected object.
Step 5
Click the Change Icon button to change the icon of the desired shortcut and select the desired picture in the list. An alternative method of performing this operation is to call the context menu of the selected shortcut by right-clicking and specifying the "Change icon" command.
Step 6
Select the "Rename" command to perform the operation of changing the name of the shortcut and specify the desired name in the corresponding field of the opened dialog box.
Step 7
Click OK to confirm the application of the selected changes.
