The system registry of the computer stores information about the parameters and settings of the operating system, programs and hardware. When the program is installed, information about it is entered into the registry automatically. But in some cases, the user is faced with the need to enter information into the system registry manually.
Instructions
Step 1
To work with the system registry in the Windows operating system, there is a special utility - the registry editor. To run it, in OS Windows XP, click: "Start - Run", enter the command regedit and click OK. In Windows 7, click Start, type regedit in the search box, and press Enter.
Step 2
Suppose that you need to add information to the system registry to automatically launch a program at computer startup, let it be "Notepad". If the operating system is on your C drive, then the path to Notepad will be: C: / Windows / System32 / notepad.exe
Step 3
In the Windows operating system, programs that start automatically at system startup can be located in several registry keys. Specifically, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / Run. Go in the registry editor along this path, select the Run section with the mouse. You will see several auto-launch programs in it - for example, firewall and antivirus software.
Step 4
In order for Notepad to start automatically at computer startup, you need to add the corresponding key to the Run section. Right-click in the right window of the Registry Editor and select New - String Value. Its name can be anything - for example, Notepad.
Step 5
Now you need to add the path to the executable file. Click the newly created Notepad string parameter with the right mouse button, click "Edit". In the window that opens, enter in the "Value" line: "C: / Windows / System32 / notepad.exe" Pay attention to the quotes - they must be.
Step 6
Information has been added to the register. Close the editor and restart your computer. If you did everything correctly, then after the computer boots up, you will see an open Notepad. It will run at Windows startup until you delete the registry key you created with the autorun key.
