Sometimes, to work with an image, you need to reduce its size. This can be done conveniently and quickly using Paint.net, a free graphics editor.
Instructions
Step 1
Start Paint.net. In the "File" menu, select the "Open" command and specify the path to the image. Expand the Image menu and click Resize. In the dialog box, enter new dimensions for width and height.
Step 2
To maintain the aspect ratio of the picture, select the check box next to Maintain Aspect Ratio. In this case, it is sufficient to enter a new value for only one of the dimensions. You can uncheck the box and enter a new value for the height or width. In this case, the image will be changed along one of the coordinate axes.
Step 3
You can do it differently. In the "Layers" menu, choose the "Rotate and Scale" command. In the dialog box, move the Scale slider up or down, depending on your goals. This will increase or decrease the size of the image. Click OK to save the drawing.
Step 4
There is one more way. Press Ctrl + A to select the image. Hook one of the corner size handles with the mouse and drag it towards the center if you want to reduce the size of the picture while maintaining the proportions. If you need to change the height or width, drag on the center handles on the horizontal or vertical border of the picture. To move the thumbnail image, click on the "Move selected area" toolbar, hold down the picture with the mouse and drag it to another place.
Step 5
To save the picture at a new size, use the "Save As" command from the "File" menu. If you save the image under the old name, the program will ask for confirmation to replace the existing file. You can agree or enter a new name for the thumbnail copy of the image - then both images will be saved.
