The "Network Neighborhood" shortcut on the desktop in the Windows operating system allows you to organize quick access to resources located on the local network. As with all icons of system components, its display can be turned on and off. Therefore, if you did not need it before, but now you suddenly needed it, then you can return the shortcut to its original place by enabling the appropriate setting in the OS settings.
Instructions
Step 1
Use Control Panel if you have Seven or Vista version of Windows operating system. In these systems, it is launched by selecting the appropriate item in the main menu, opened by clicking on the "Start" button.
Step 2
In Windows 7, starting the control panel, it will be enough to enter the word "personalization" in the search field and the system itself will find the necessary component, and you will only have to click the link shown to you with the same name. In Windows Vista, you will have to make a short journey to the desired page yourself: select the "Appearance and personalization" section, and then click the "Personalization" link.
Step 3
Select the task named "Change Desktop Icons" - this link is located on the left side of the personalization settings window. This will take you to the window of a system component with the title "Desktop Elements", which contains settings for displaying some of the shortcuts of system components.
Step 4
If you are using an earlier version of the Windows XP operating system, you can do without the Control Panel. In this OS, you can right-click on a free space on the desktop and select the "Properties" line from the pop-up context menu. In the window that opens, you need to click the "Desktop Settings" button located on the "Desktop" tab. In this way, you will be taken to the "Desktop Elements" window similar to other OS versions.
Step 5
In all of the listed versions of Windows, in the "Desktop Icons" section on the "General" tab of this window, check the checkbox associated with the "Network" (or "Network Neighborhood") shortcut. After that, click the "OK" button, committing the change and close all other windows (Control Panel in Windows 7 and Vista or Display Properties in Windows XP).
