A malfunctioning DVD drive is a serious enough problem that can interfere with any user of a personal computer. Step 1
To perform repair operations, disconnect all commutations from the drive and remove it from the system unit. Get a paper clip or thin wire. Slide it through the access hole under the DVD drive's output tray. This will allow it to slide outward. After you have pulled out the tray until it stops, release its fasteners. Pull out the panel, use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the retaining screws and remove the remaining drive components. Then remove the fasteners that hold the tray itself. The most common cause of DVD drive failure is increased friction in the disc loading mechanism. The engine belt is worn out, or the laser simply stops working normally.
Step 2
To repair a DVD drive, remove any dust that has accumulated on its components. Next, remove the remnants of the old silicone grease and apply a new one. Then replace the drive belt with a new one. Next, soak a small piece of cloth in alcohol and wipe the surface of the new drive belt with it. Don't forget about the laser. Take a special tissue and use it to wipe the laser lens, removing any remaining dust. We can assume that the repair of the DVD drive has taken place.
Step 3
Now adjust the amperage of the laser in the drive. To do this, without putting the front panel on the drive, start it, having previously installed a potentiometer on the carriage with a laser, which will determine the current strength. Start Nero Disc Speed and monitor the disc reading quality. Turn the screw to adjust the amperage. Having found the optimal value for reading the disc, fix the screw in this position and make the final assembly of your DVD drive. If the DVD drive has not been repaired, contact a specialist or buy a new one.
