The ability to open several documents in one window is available in many application and system computer programs. To switch between these documents, tabs are most often used, which most users are accustomed to clicking with the mouse pointer. However, there is another method that requires less movement and therefore is faster and often more convenient.

Instructions

Step 1

Use hotkeys to quickly switch between open application tabs. These are combinations of buttons, the simultaneous pressing of which is perceived by the currently active program as a command to perform the action assigned to this combination. To go to the next, that is, the one located to the right of the open tab, press any of the two Alt keys. Both of these buttons are located in the bottom row of the main group on a standard keyboard. If you use a netbook or some of the laptop models, then it is quite possible that there is no such choice - to save space, the right key is often excluded from the keyboard of small-sized gadgets. Then, without releasing Alt, press the Tab key - in the very first column of buttons on the left, it is placed three rows above Alt.

Step 2

To go to the previous tab, that is, located to the left of the current tab, this hotkey combination must be supplemented with one more service button - Shift. First press and hold the alt="Image" and Shift buttons, and then press Tab once. In this case, you can also use any Shift key - left or right, it does not matter.

Step 3

If you want to move several tabs to the left or right of the current one, do not release alt="Image" (or alt="Image" + Shift), and press Tab the required number of times. Moreover, you can change the switching direction while already in the process - hold down the Alt key, and then press and release Shift before pressing Tab again, thus changing the direction of the tab browsing.

Step 4

In some applications, this mechanism is supplemented with useful options. For example, in the Opera browser, the first time you press the Tab key, a list with the titles of all open tabs appears, and to the right of the selected line, the application displays a thumbnail of the page. This list and image remain on the screen as long as the Alt key is pressed, and you can select the tab for the transition based on the text and thumbnail.
