When working with documents in a text editor, the question of hyphens and dashes often arises. How can you make the dash automatically appear where you need it? In the text editor Microsoft Office Word, this feature was implemented, but not completely. For example, sometimes when creating a list, you need to convert hyphens to dashes. And in Microsoft Office Word 2007 this feature was fully implemented.
Necessary
Microsoft Office Word 2007 software
Instructions
Step 1
In order for a dash to appear in the text, it is necessary to leave a space in front of the dash and after it, the hyphen on the dash will automatically change. But not every time it turns out that way. Sometimes it becomes a shame from spending precious time on such, as it may seem, a trifle. Microsoft Office Word 2007 introduces a fix for the dash function. If you put two hyphens "-" in a row, then your text editor will automatically change these hyphens to dashes. Moreover, the dashes can be different. If you put a space before two hyphens, an em dash will appear in your document. And the absence of a space before two hyphens will give you an en dash.
Step 2
To enable this mode, press the Microsoft Office button in the main program window. Then click the Word Options link.
Step 3
Click on "Spelling" - select "AutoCorrect Options".
Step 4
Go to the AutoFormat As You Type tab - check the box with hyphens (-) on dashes (-).
Step 5
To completely cancel automatic dash creation, use the AutoCorrect Options button.
Step 6
Move the mouse cursor over dashes or em dashes - after the appearance of a small blue rectangle, wait for the lightning bolt to appear on this rectangle.
Step 7
Select one of the actions you want to do: "undo dashes" or "undo the automatic creation of dashes from hyphens".
