Sometimes you need to open the installation file with the.exe extension in order to extract the cab-file to copy it to the PDA. Not all pocket computers today can be synchronized with desktop counterparts (PC or desktop versions).

WinRar software

Instructions

Step 1

The executable file of the application has the extension exe. At its core, it is a multivolume archive that can be unpacked, for example, with the WinRar program. To do this, change the extension from exe to rar or zip, then open the archive using the above utility.

Step 2

If the extensions after the period are not displayed in Windows Explorer, enable this option in the folder properties. To do this, in the open window, click the top menu "Tools" and select "Folder Options". Go to the "View" tab and uncheck the "Hide extensions for registered file types" line.

Step 3

It so happens that through WinRar it is impossible to open a file with a changed extension. In this case, it is recommended to run the installation file and specify the directory for unpacking all files. Then go to this directory, inside it there will be the necessary cab-file for your PDA.

Step 4

But not all installers unpack files by default, some of them immediately start installation. In this case, it is rather difficult to trace the destination folder, but it is possible to check the shared directories for the programs being installed. The PDA communicates with the desktop PC through a synchronization program (ActiveSync). Go to the folder with this program and find the directory with the name of the executable file.

Step 5

It is also recommended to search for the desired directory within the Program Files folder on your system drive. To open the search dialog box, you must press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + F.

Step 6

If you still can't find the unpacked files, use the program Сabextractor. Open the program and in the main window, click the top menu "Open", then select the file with the.exe extension. In the window that appears, select the required cab-file and click the "Save" button. Do not forget to specify the directory for unpacking this file type in the program settings.
