The hard drive is known to be large, but not rubbery. And if an hour-long video file takes up space on it, and you need exactly one and a half minutes from this file, there is only one way out: take and cut out the desired part of the file. And maybe vice versa, a beautiful video can be spoiled in a few minutes, when the operator's hand trembled. The way out is the same - cut out part of the file.

Necessary

  • Video file
  • VirtualDub program

Instructions

Step 1

Open the video in VirtualDub. Press the traditional keyboard shortcut Ctrl + O, in the window that appears, left-click on the file from which you want to cut a fragment and then click on the "Open" button.

Step 2

Regardless of whether you need to delete a segment of the video, or, conversely, save it, move the cursor to the first frame of this video segment. To move through the video file, you can simply drag the slider at the bottom of the program window. For more precise navigation, use the cursor keys. Press the right arrow button to move forward one frame. To go back one frame, press the left arrow button.

Step 3

Set the start of the selection using the Set Selection Start command from the Edit menu.

Step 4

Move the cursor to the last frame of the video fragment you are interested in and set the end of the selection with the Set Selection End command from the Edit menu.

Step 5

In the Video menu, left-click on the Full Processing Mode item. Do the same in the Audio menu.

Step 6

If you have selected the fragment that you are going to delete, press the Delete key.

Step 7

Save the video using the Save as AVI command from the File menu. In the window that opens, specify the location on the disk where the video will be saved, write the file name and click the "Save" button.

Step 8

If the video you want to cut from is packed in a VOB container, it's even easier. You can use DVD Cutter to cut sections from VOB files. All you need to do is open a file in it, find the beginning of the desired fragment and click on the Set Start button. Then find the end of the desired fragment and click on the Set End button. Click on the Save Selection button, specify the name of the file to be saved. The cut fragment will be saved as the same VOB file. Like the VirtualDub editor, this program is free.
