If at the end of the drive type there is an inscription RW, then it can be used to write information to discs. There may also be a situation when the name of the drive type says Multi. This also means that the optical drive has the ability to write information to discs.

Also, more detailed information about the type of drive and its model can be found in this way. Click on the "My Computer" icon with the right mouse button. In the context menu, select the "Properties" command. Then select "Device Manager", and in it find the item DVD and CD-ROM. Click on the arrow next to this item. The model name of your drive appears. The first word is the manufacturer of the drive, the next letters indicate its type. If the letters DRW are written, it means that the drive can write information to both DVDs and CDs.

If the letters CRW are indicated, then the drive can only read CDs. Accordingly, it is also possible to record information only on CDs. If it says CD-ROM, it means that the drive can read CDs. But it is impossible to record information on them. A DVD-ROM option is also possible. If this is your case, then your drive can read both CD and DVD discs. But it is also impossible to record information on them using this type of drive. You can also find the designation CD / DVDW. Such drives read both CD-media and DVD.
