If you set out to connect your home theater and personal computer, then consider a few basic rules. They will help you quickly and correctly make the connection, avoiding possible difficulties.

Step 1
Practice shows that a budget home theater speaker system is able to reproduce sound of higher quality than computer speakers of the same price category. The problem is that the correct connectors are not being used to connect the speakers to the DVD player. The only good solution is to use your DVD player as an amplifier. Purchase a cable that is an adapter from a standard Jack 3.5 mm jack to two tulips. Choose an optimal cable length considering the fact that too long a wire can negatively affect the quality of signal transmission.
Step 2
Now plug the Jack into an empty slot on your computer's sound card. If you are using a sound card with non-configurable connectors, connect to the Audio Out port. Connect the connectors on the other end of the wire to the Audio In channels of the DVD player.
Step 3
Make sure all speakers and subwoofer (if any) are connected to the DVD player. Turn on both devices. Wait for the operating system to load. If you have access to the DVD player settings, then specify the channels used as the main audio sources.
Step 4
Open a program that allows you to change the settings for the computer's sound card. First, make sure the jack you are using is set to Audio Out. Now adjust the settings for the audio output. If the home theater kit includes a standard 5.1 system (5 speakers and a subwoofer), then select the 6CH Speaker sound card operation mode. This will properly distribute the signal from the computer to the DVD player.
Step 5
Play a suitable music track and fine tune the sound using the equalizer of your computer and DVD player.
