Watching HD movies (high definition movies) maximizes the visual experience. Unfortunately, not every standard drive can play HD-DVD on a computer, you need a dedicated drive to play HD-DVD discs.
Necessary
- HD-DVD drive
- HD graphics card
- High Definition 1080p Monitor
- Computer with a 1.4 GHz processor
- Windows Vista or later
- Power DVD or AnyDVD HD software
- HD-DVD disc
Instructions
Step 1
Buy and install an HD graphics card if you don't already have one. Turn off your computer before installing, unplug the power supply. Touch one of the metal parts of the computer to discharge static electricity. Please refer to your user manual for instructions on how to install your graphics card, as these instructions vary by model. Try NVidia GeForce 8500GT or ATI Radeon HD 2900 if you don't know which video card you can use. Check with your electronics store manager for these and other HD graphics cards if you're not sure which is best for your computer or budget.
Step 2
Buy and download Cyberlink PowerDVD or SlySoft AnyDVD HD software to play HD-DVD discs. Run the installation file with the selected program. Follow the instructions on the screen during the installation process and restart your computer after the installation is complete.
Step 3
Open the installed program and go to settings in the software menu. Typically, they will be found under Options> Configuration.
Step 4
Select HD DVD as the Twin Format Preference. This option will allow you to play discs as HD DVD while watching movies that are distributed in DVD and HD DVD formats.
Step 5
Purchase an external HD-DVD drive if your computer does not have a built-in one. Try Microsoft Xbox USB or HP HD100 if you're not sure which drive to use. Connect the drive to an available USB port on your computer. Skip this step if your computer already has an HD-DVD drive.
Step 6
Insert the disc into your HD-DVD drive.
Step 7
Open PowerDVD (or AnyDVD HD) if it does not start automatically when you insert an HD-DVD disc. Click the Play button to start watching HD movies on your computer.
