The video card to a very large extent determines the ability of the computer to work with applications that require fast image refresh on the screen. The most common programs of this kind are computer games. You should not install a video card in a laptop on your own, and you can risk it with a desktop computer.

Instructions

Step 1

Installation of a video card, like any other expansion card, cannot be done when the computer is turned on. Therefore, you need to take care of saving this wonderful instruction (remember, write down, open in a laptop, etc.), and then click the "Start" button and select the "Shut down" command.

Step 2

Disconnect the power cord from the system unit. If possible, wear a grounded wrist strap - such devices are rare, but very useful, as they protect memory chips and other components on computer boards from static electricity.

Step 3

Provide free access to expansion slots on the computer motherboard. To do this, you need to remove the left panel of the system unit, having previously disconnected, if necessary, the wires on its rear panel.

Step 4

Find a free slot corresponding to the bus of the video card you are installing. Most likely, it is designed to work on the PCI-E bus - this is the most common standard today. Such a slot is 8.5 cm long and is divided into two sections of unequal sizes. If there are several slots, choose the one that allows you to leave as much free space as possible around the video card - this will provide the best cooling for the video processor.

Step 5

Remove the cover from the opening on the rear panel of the system unit, located opposite the selected slot. To do this, you either need to unscrew one or several screws, or simply break it off - the specific method depends on the design of the block.

Step 6

Insert the video card into the chosen slot. Note that there may be a plastic tab at one end of the slot, which must be pulled back before installing.

Step 7

Fix the back surface of the video card with connectors for connecting external devices. Usually, for this you need to screw it with one screw to the back of the system unit.

Step 8

Replace the side panel, reconnect all wires, and turn on the computer. After that, you can proceed with the installation of the video card software.
