Step 1
A standard USB cable is most often used as an extension cable, allowing you to move the port from the back of the system unit literally to your desk. Thus, you can connect flash drives and other devices without getting up from your chair and even more so without sinking under the table.

A USB extender is also used to connect modems from cellular operators. Cellular communications are often unstable, and the speed of the Internet in such devices directly depends on the signal strength. The USB cable will allow you to bring the modem closer to a window or other better reception area. Use a USB extension cable to connect a webcam with a short cable. The smallest webcams are most often designed for use with laptops, and therefore have a wire no more than half a meter.
Step 3
Cables with mini- and micro-USB interfaces are used to connect mobile phones, external hard drives, external drives and more to a computer (or laptop / netbook). These extenders have a regular USB connector on one end and a small mini or micro connector on the other. Do not use a USB cable that is too long. Many devices (for example, cellular modems) may not be detected when connected with an extension cable longer than three meters.
