The sound of the phone keypad helps people with thick fingers and rough, insensitive skin know if a key has been pressed. In some cases, the tones when you press different keys are different to give a beep when the wrong key is pressed. But those with moderately sensitive finger skin do not need such prompts. In addition, the sound of the keyboard is sometimes inappropriate in a negotiation setting. In other words, it is more convenient for most mobile phone users to mute the keyboard.
