Step 1

Overheating of the processor leads to unstable operation of the computer. In severe cases, the CPU can be damaged. To avoid this, regularly carry out preventive maintenance of the system unit. Unplug the computer from the electrical outlet, remove the lifting screws, and remove the side panel.

If the processor is made in the form of a chip (microcircuit), heatsinks and coolers are used to remove heat. The heatsink looks like a battery of aluminum or copper plates mounted on top of the CPU. The cooler is a small fan attached with screws to the heatsink. Put the vacuum cleaner to blow out and clean all the system unit devices, including the radiator fins, from dust with a stream of air.

To improve heat transfer between the chip and the heatsink, a special thermal paste is used. If the thermal grease dries up, its thermal conductivity decreases and the processor begins to overheat. Carefully remove the radiator and wipe its contact area with cotton wool soaked in alcohol. Clean the chip surface in the same way. Apply a drop of paste with a diameter of 2-3 mm to the radiator and apply a thin layer to the surface. Replace the radiator and secure.

Step 4

The connector on the motherboard into which the CPU chip is inserted is called a socket. When trying to install a processor into a socket, the pins of the microcircuit may bend or break. To align the lead, use a narrow, hard object with a flat surface, such as a metal ruler or a medical needle.

Step 5

If the leg (pin) breaks off, you can try to glue it. Insert a piece of copper wire into the desired socket of the socket so long that it rises slightly above the surface. Apply a drop of Kontakol conductive glue to the contact pad of the chip, from which the lead broke off, using a needle or a toothpick, and carefully insert the processor into the socket so that the pad with the glue is firmly pressed against the "prosthesis" of the leg.

Step 6

Make sure that the Contactol does not hit the other pins of the microcircuit, otherwise a short circuit will occur between them. Do not remove the repaired processor from the socket for the second time - the leg may break off again.

Step 7

If you have a non-working processor, you can use its parts for repair. Separate one of the leads from it and glue it to the processor you are trying to recover. A thin needle of a suitable diameter can also become a "prosthesis". Use a wire cutter to cut to the desired length, file the wider end section with a file, and glue it onto the processor pad.
