In the modern world, computers are becoming more and more popular. Sometimes buying a new computer is just a whim, sometimes it is a really necessary measure, sometimes a PC makes our life much easier. In addition to personal computers, laptops were actively developed, which not only could become a worthy alternative to conventional PCs, but even surpass them in some parameters. Of course, the usefulness of a laptop is significantly reduced if it does not have access to the Internet or other networks. Fortunately, there are plenty of options for connecting your laptop to your local network.
Necessary
- Switch
- Router
- Router
- LAN card
Instructions
Step 1
First, choose a method to connect your laptop to your local network. Many of the options will seem similar, but the connection process will be dramatically different. Either you will connect your laptop using a network cable, or use Wi-Fi wireless technology for this.
Step 2
If you settled on the first option, and the local network is built using a switch or a wired router, then connect your laptop to one of these devices using a network cable. Depending on the requirements of your local network, enter the IP address and DNS server settings for your laptop.
Step 3
If it is not possible to connect a laptop to the network using a switch, then create a direct connection to any computer on the local network. To do this, you need a free network card in your computer. After establishing a network connection computer-laptop, open access to the new local network by changing the parameters of the old one. To do this, open the properties of the local network to which you want to connect the laptop, go to the "Access" tab. If you want to allow Internet access, then check both boxes.
