Most comparatively old laptops have one big problem - a weak graphics card. Considering the fact that some laptops have an integrated video adapter, replacing it becomes a daunting task for many.
Necessary
- - crosshead screwdriver;
- - instructions for the motherboard;
- - tweezers.
Instructions
Step 1
First, find out the type of video card installed in your laptop. If you are dealing with an integrated video adapter, then it is most reasonable to install a new full-fledged video card. Read the instructions for the laptop motherboard.
Step 2
If it was not at hand, then open the website of the manufacturer of this motherboard model and find its description. Find out if it has a slot for installing a full-fledged video card. Check the type of this port (if present).
Step 3
Purchase a suitable video adapter. Turn the laptop over. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove all screws. To disassemble some models, most of the screws must be removed, and even those that secure additional covers that cover the RAM and hard drive compartments.
Step 4
Remove the laptop's bottom cover. You may need to disconnect several wires from the motherboard to carry out this process. Be sure to remember the slots to which they were connected.
Step 5
Remove your old video adapter (if you have one). Install a new video card into the vacated slot. Assemble the laptop by connecting all the necessary cables and replacing the bottom cover. Turn on the device.
Step 6
Install the driver for the new video adapter. If there was no driver disk included with the device, then visit the official website of the manufacturer of this video card model and download the required software from there.
Step 7
If your integrated video card is in working order, then it will most likely be active at the moment. Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS menu. Disable the integrated graphics card.
Step 8
If this is not possible, then use the program installed for the new video card to change the active device.
