VST plugins are extensions with which you can increase the functionality of the used multimedia editors. They can act as a virtual instrument or provide additional effects for working with sound.
Instructions
Step 1
In order to start using VST plugins, you need to install them on the system. By the type of installation, they can be divided into two types: those with their own installer and those without it. In the first case, the installation will be no different from a similar procedure with any other software. Double click on the installation file, specify the installation folder, click the button to continue and wait for the process to finish.
Step 2
In the second case, the VST file will be a.dll file, i.e. dynamic link library. To install, copy this file to a dedicated folder. By default, it is defined as C: / Program Files / VstPlugins. If there is no such folder in the system, create it.
Step 3
You can also change the default folder for VST plugins. Launch Registry Editor by selecting Start -> Run, type regedit and click OK. Find the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / VST / VSTPluginsPath branch and specify the desired directory for VST plugins.
Step 4
After installation, connect them to the program in which you will use them. It can be various audio and video editors, programs for creating music. In the application settings, you will need to specify the folder where the plugins are installed. For example, in the Fruity Loops Studio program, select Channels -> Add one -> More and click the Refresh / Fast Scan button.
Step 5
Some of the VST plugins have the ability to work independently, they are called stand alone. Run the installed plugin as a program and work with it.
Step 6
You can also use a small utility that will act as a host. When you launch it, a list with installed plugins will open, from which select the one you want, and then start working with it. Examples of such utilities are Xlutop Chainer, VST-Host, Steinberg V-Stack, etc.
