Connecting a computer running Windows XP to the home network is a standard procedure and does not require additional software.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the context menu of the "My Computer" desktop element by right-clicking and select "Properties". Use the "Computer name" tab in the dialog box that opens and click the "Identification" button to launch the wizard utility.
Step 2
Skip the first window of the wizard by clicking Next and apply the check box next to "This computer is intended for home use" next. Click the Next button and complete the first stage of the connection by clicking the Finish button in the new dialog box.
Step 3
Reboot the system and bring up the main menu by clicking the "Start" button. Go to the item "My Computer" and open the link "My Network Places". Expand the Network Tasks node and select the Set Home Network command.
Step 4
Skip the first dialog box of the Network Setup Wizard by clicking the "Next" button and confirm the installation of the necessary equipment by clicking the same button again in the next window. Apply the checkbox next to "This computer is connected to the Internet via …" in the new dialog box and click the "Next" button.
Step 5
Type a description and computer name in the corresponding fields of the next dialog box and use the "Next" button to go to the next window. Type the name of the workgroup in the field of the same name in the next window. Please note that this name must be the same on all computers on the local network. Click the "Next" button and complete the network configuration procedure by clicking the "Finish" button in the last window of the wizard.
Step 6
If you need to change the settings, use the "My Network Places" folder. Expand the link "Show network connections" and expand the node of the required connection by double-clicking. Change the required parameters manually or use the "Fix" button to switch to automatic mode.
