Sometimes problems arise when displaying games that are more than 5 years old - dark stripes appear on the sides of the game screen. They can be removed using standard software and drivers.
Necessary
ATI Catalyst Driver Package
Instructions
Step 1
As a rule, this problem occurs only due to the fact that older games cannot change the screen resolution to the required proportions. Therefore, it should be changed manually. To do this, right-click on an empty area of the desktop and select "Screen Resolution" (for the Windows 7 operating system).
Step 2
Change the value to an acceptable value, for example, from 1920x1080 to 1024x768. Press the "Apply" and "OK" buttons in sequence.
Step 3
Now you need to run the installed Catalyst Center package and change the display settings. To do this, right-click again on an empty space on the desktop and select Catalyst Control Center.
Step 4
In the window that opens, select the item My built-in screens (on the left), and then "Properties". On the right side of the window, select the "Full Screen" option. Click the "Apply" button to save the settings.
Step 5
Now go back to the Screen Resolution applet and change its value back to the previous value. If you have a different version of Catalyst Control Center, open the main window and select Graphics.
Step 6
Then go to the "Desktops & Displays" item and right-click on the display that is shown in the lower left corner. From the context menu, select the "Settings" item and select the "Full Screen" item. To save the result, click the "Apply" button.
Step 7
Start the game and check if there are dark stripes on the sides of the screen. If not, it is recommended to reset all settings by setting the "Default" option and try again.
Step 8
It is worth noting that for video cards from the manufacturer Nvidia, this operation is similar: in the driver control panel, find the monitor and activate the option "Adjust size and position" or "Use Nvidia scaling.
