This is familiar to most of us. You delete the file, and then you realize that you did it in vain and you need to return it back. This guide provides a fairly in-depth look at various tools for recovering deleted files.
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, go to the "Trash" and try to find the file you want. If you have a lot of files in your Recycle Bin, you can search using the Search box in the upper right corner of the screen. Alternatively, you can right-click on the window screen and select Sort from the drop-down menu. The easiest way to do this is by date.
Step 2
If the file was saved to cloud services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, or SkyDrive, log in to your account and check the trash can. The file from there can be recovered.
Step 3
If you are not sure if the file was actually deleted by you, use the Search utility available in the Start menu. If the file has been moved to another location for any reason, you can find it.
Step 4
To keep your most important files safe, you should back them up regularly. Windows has built-in backup tools to help you with this task. Go to the folder containing the file, right-click on it, choosing "Restore Previous Versions". File backups can be viewed by clicking the "Open" button.
This feature is not enabled by default in Windows 8. Therefore, if you are working on a computer running this operating system, enable it.
Step 5
To recover deleted files, you can use a special program called Recuva. Use this application to scan your hard drive for deleted files and, if you can find the one you need, restore it.
Step 6
If the necessary data, deleted by accident, is of particular value to you or your business, contact a professional service team. Before doing this, do the following: immediately turn off your computer (the longer it works, the more data will be written to the hard disk and the less chances you will have to recover the deleted document).
