Sometimes website owners are faced with the need to change hosting. The reasons for this may be different - sometimes the conditions of the existing hosting cease to suit webmasters both technically and financially, and they are forced to look for a new hosting, more convenient, functional and affordable. Moving a site to a new hosting is a responsible business that requires a certain order of actions.

Instructions

Step 1

First you need to create a backup of the site database (MySQL). To do this, use the Sypex Dumper script and create a copy of the database and then export it to your computer. After that, zip all files and directories contained in your site.

Step 2

The best option for advanced users is to package the files in a UNIX tar.gz archive. Do this with a file manager convenient for you.

Step 3

Having created backup copies of the database and files, register a new domain on the chosen hosting, noting during registration that you are transferring your site to it.

Step 4

After creating a domain, in the hosting control panel, create a new empty database for your site, and then copy the site files and directories to the new hosting. To do this, you can use the FTP protocol, but it will be much faster to upload files using SSH and the wget command (wget https:// old_site.ru/file_archive_site_files.tgz). Upload the archive with files to the root directory of the new domain.

Step 5

After finishing downloading the files, unpack the archive with the appropriate command, and then delete the domain records in the control panel of the old hosting.

Step 6

Do not forget to change the DNS records of the domain and update them, as the site will no longer be available on the previous domain, and if you already have a large audience of visitors, find a way to redirect it to the new site by informing about the move in advance.

Step 7

To change DNS records, go to the control panel of the domain registrar and enter the names of the DNS servers of the new hosting provider in the settings. Updates will be invalid for a while - wait a few hours for them to take effect.

Step 8

Now start restoring data to the new database. Also use Sypex Dumper to import the saved tables into the new database. Set a new username and password to access the database.

Step 9

After importing the database, change the CMS configuration file by changing the login, password and database name.

Now you just have to check the permissions for files and directories, and finally, check how correctly the site starts on the new hosting.
