Step 1
The Windows Seven operating system includes the ability to create an image of local disks. Its use allows you not to resort to the help of third-party programs. First, prepare a place to store the system partition image.
Step 2
For this, the unallocated space of the hard drive is usually used. The option is not the best, because you will not be able to restore the system in the event of a hard drive failure. Use an external hard drive or an additional stationary hard drive to store the image.
Step 3
Connect the selected device to your computer. Open Control Panel in Windows Seven. Go to the "System and Security" submenu. Select the "Backup and Restore" menu.
Step 4
In the menu of additional actions, select the item "Create a system image". Wait while the system determines the available locations for storing the archive. Select the unallocated space or disk partition and click the "Archive" button. If you want to use DVD drives for storing the archive, prepare 5-6 blank discs.
Step 5
The imaging process can take over an hour. Wait for it to complete and disconnect the drive. If you are using Windows XP, use Acronis True Image to create an image. Install the utility and run it.
Step 6
Select the Create System Disk Image menu. Specify the drive and its section where the created archive will be located. Click the "Create" button and wait while the program performs the required operations.
Step 7
To restore Windows XP in this case, you need to use a bootable disk with Acronis software. Take care in advance to create such a disc. This will save you time looking for another computer or a ready-made boot device.
