Not everyone goes to visit each other, taking a hard drive with them (if it is, of course, not an external one). However, an ordinary user may also need to transfer data from one hard drive to another. It's easy to do - you just need to connect the second hard drive to the computer and transfer the files by loading the operating system.

Necessary

  • - computer;
  • - cables;
  • - HDD.

Instructions

Step 1

Turn off the computer and remove the side cover that gives access to the system unit's motherboard. To do this, carefully unscrew the bolts that are located on the computer system unit. Locate the hard drive connectors on the motherboard. Use a SATA cable or IDE cable depending on the type of hard drive connection. Don't forget to plug in the power - it is also different for SATA or IDE devices.

Step 2

Turn on the computer and check if the hard drive is detected by the computer. Immediately after turning on the computer, press the Del or F2 button to enter the BIOS. The Standard CMOS Features section displays all connected SATA or IDE devices: optical drives or hard drives. Exit BIOS without saving changes (if you didn't make them).

Step 3

Load the operating system. Wait while Windows installs drivers on the connected hard drive and detects it as media. Verify this procedure by opening Device Manager (Start -> Control Panel -> System and Security -> Device Manager).

Step 4

Open My Computer, Total Commander, or any file manager you prefer. Highlight the data you want to transfer. Then press F6 and enter (these buttons are relevant for the Total Commander program). You can transfer data by connecting the hard drive as an external one. To do this, you need a Mobile Rack and a computer cable. There are also special adapters with which you can connect both SATA and IDE hard drives.

Step 5

As soon as all files are transferred to another hard drive, check the functionality by connecting it to the computer as the main hard drive. It is also worth considering that this may cause some problems with the operating system. Try to back up your data by loading it onto disks or external USB drives.
