Often, users need to split the local computer disk into two virtual ones. This is mainly used for more granular and reliable data storage.
Necessary
Computer, software, local disk
Instructions
Step 1
To split a disk into two virtual disks, you need to boot from a prepared boot floppy disk. While the DOS prompt like A:> appears on the screen, you need to type in the fdisk C: command and press ENTER.
Step 2
Run the program "fdisk", which is always present on boot floppies and is designed to create partitions on hard drives. When asked by the program "Include support for large hard drives?" the answer is YES.
Step 3
After that, a simple working menu will pop up, in which you will need to select the desired item by entering its number. First you need to check which partitions are on our hard drive. This operation is required in cases when you are using a disc that was in use. before creating new partitions on the disk, you need to delete all the old ones.
Step 4
Select - Display information about existing partitions. Each operation is confirmed with the ENTER key, and return back to the menu with the ESC key. If you need to delete partitions, then first delete the logical drives in the DOS partition, and then the DOS partition itself, and only after that - the main DOS partition. For all these operations, there are corresponding items in the working menu, and each clicked item opens its own menu.
Step 5
The next step is to create new sections. Always start by creating a main / main section, i.e. the section where the operating system will be located. To do this, in the initial menu, select the line "Create the main DOS partition". Next, set the size of the space in MB, make the partition active, i.e. systemic.
Step 6
After that, when all operations are completed, restart your computer. Creating multiple disks is not such a difficult operation. You can create either five or six discs. Just keep in mind that all the memory of the local disk will be divided by the memory of the virtual disks.
