Some types of files saved in special formats can be opened only by mounting their images to a virtual disk. To open this kind of disks, you need to perform a number of operations using an emulator.

Instructions

Step 1

Before you open a virtual disk with the desired program, video, audio file, you must, firstly, create this virtual disk, and secondly, mount the program or file you need on it in the form of an image. Probably the most common and easy-to-use program used for this purpose is Alcohol 120%.

Step 2

In the main window of this program after its launch, select with the mouse cursor in the left vertical panel named "Settings", the section "Virtual disk". Click on it. A new function window will appear.

Step 3

Specify in this new window as many virtual disks as you need (by the number of programs or files), and click the "OK" button. You will see a shortcut to a new virtual disk (if you have created one disk) under the name “DVD drive (V:)” on the working field of the “My Computer” folder.

Step 4

Mount the file image on the virtual disk, which is very important to create without errors. To do this, in the main window of the running Alcohol 120% program, select the "Image creation" operation with the mouse cursor in the left vertical panel. Click on it. A new function window will appear.

Step 5

Then click the "Next" command button in the new window. In the next window, see if you have enough space to place the image on the required local disk (C:, D:, or others). Select the drive or folder to copy to, and click on the "Start" button located at the bottom of the window. The image will be ready after a while.

Step 6

Next, open the file image of a certain format (for example, iso, mdf, mds, ccd, etc.) that you want to open by mounting it on a virtual disk as follows: hover the cursor over the icon of the created virtual disk, right-click on it, select in the opened context menu item "Mount image". Then click on the "Open" item and select the image you need by hovering the cursor over it and the "Open" command in the window that appears.

Step 7

After that, the selected file image is automatically mounted on a virtual disk, and becomes available for launch.
