Sometimes it happens that the user forgets which directory he saved the desired file. In the Windows operating system, you don't have to open all the folders in a row to find it. It's much easier to use the searchable component.

Instructions

Step 1

Press the Windows key or the Start button and select Search from the menu. A new dialog box will open. This is the tool for finding files and folders. If you cannot find the component you want in the Start menu, customize its display.

Step 2

Right-click on the taskbar and select Properties from the context menu. Alternatively, open Control Panel and click on the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties icon in the Appearance and Themes category.

Step 3

In the properties window go to the "Start Menu" tab and click on the "Customize" button opposite the "Start Menu" item. Another window will open, make the "Advanced" tab active in it.

Step 4

In the Start Menu Items group, scroll down the list using the slider or mouse wheel until you find the Search item. Place a marker in the field opposite the found item and close the windows by successively pressing the OK button in all open windows.

Step 5

In the search window itself, you can search for the desired file by different criteria: by name, by the date of the last changes, by size, and so on. All the necessary parameters are set on the left side of the window. Indicate on which local drives to search for the file, and mark the appropriate fields with a marker.

Step 6

Pay attention to the "Advanced Options" category. It is best to set a marker in the "View subfolders" and "Search in hidden files and folders" fields, because by expanding the search scope, you increase the chances that the file will be found. Click on the "Find" button and wait for the operation to end. The list of found files will be displayed on the right side of the window.

Step 7

If you remember exactly which folder you saved the file to, open it and click on the "Search" button on the toolbar. If you do not see this button, right-click on the panel and set a marker in the context menu next to the item "Regular buttons". When the window changes its appearance, set all the necessary search parameters in its left part and click the "Find" button.
