Word is the standard graphics editor that comes with the Microsoft Office package supplied with the Windows operating system. It is on it that they make the first steps in typing, so changing the fields in Word is one of the basic knowledge of a computer user.

Instructions

Step 1

Each document opened in Microsoft Word has margins - an area free from text and images at the top, bottom, right and left. It is needed for the aesthetics and convenience of storing the printed page, since it is hemmed in folders with the left margin, and the other three sides are erased from flipping over time. If the lines came close to one of these edges, some of them would inevitably collapse along with the paper or hide behind the area of attachment to the binder. Thus, the presence of fields is a prerequisite for the correct design of any document.

Step 2

There are two ways to change the margins of a page that is open in Word. The first is by using the File menu on the taskbar located in the upper left part of the window. Clicking on the button brings up an extensive list of commands, which includes "Page settings". If this list is short and the required line is not in it, then there should be a circle with a double down arrow at the bottom of the last one. Clicking on it will expand the entire list. In the "Page setup" window that opens, select the "Fields" tab. It is on it that you can set the size of the empty area around the typed text.

Step 3

Dimensions are numerical designations in centimeters that can be typed in from the keyboard or changed by pressing the up or down arrow buttons located to the right of the parameter entry cell. Each press changes the figure by 1 mm up or down. The left area is usually 2.5 cm, all others - 1 cm each. It is also possible to set the size of the binding, as well as its position separately from the rest of the values in the next line. Some documents may be bound on top rather than on the left, especially if they are in landscape orientation. You can change it from the bookstore here, in the "Fields" tab.

Step 4

The second way to change the width of the margins is to drag their borders manually using the two rulers located at the top and left of the open page. Most of them are white, except for the very beginning and end, which have the tint of the Word window (gray, blue). It is this shading that indicates the area of text-free fields. If you move the mouse cursor to the border between the gray and white parts of the ruler, it will take the form of a two-pointed arrow, and the inscription "Right (or other) field" will also appear. You need to press the left mouse button and, while holding it, drag the field with the double-pointed arrow to the desired position.
