Migration of The Bat mail client is sometimes needed when switching to another computer to restore mailboxes after reinstalling the operating system. This can be done in several ways. The built-in capabilities of the application allow you to save during such an operation not only information about mailboxes, but also their archives, as well as settings of the program interface.

Instructions

Step 1

The easiest way to transfer The Bat mail client does not require any preparatory operations for saving settings and archiving messages - just copy everything that is in the root directory of the program and paste it into a new "place of work". The required folder is usually located in the Program Files directory on the computer's system drive.

Step 2

After transferring to another computer or to another system drive of the same computer, place the program directory in the same Program Files folder, open it and run thebat.exe file. The program, awakened in this way in a new place, will itself determine that it needs to be reinstalled into the system, and will begin this process by asking you the necessary questions.

Step 3

With such a transfer, the accounts of all previous mailboxes will not be automatically restored, but if the message archive was stored in the application root folder and copied to a new location, you will be able to access them. To do this, re-create each account, specifying the folder of an existing archive as the storage location. The transferred messages will appear in the list after restarting the application.

Step 4

Although the described method is the simplest, it belongs to the "undocumented capabilities" of the program and is not recommended by the manufacturer. Correct transfer of accounts and settings uses a special function of the program itself. To activate it, open the "Tools" section in the menu and select the "Backup" item. The Bat will warn you that the archive being created is not compatible with versions released before v4.1 - click OK.

Step 5

If you want to transfer all existing settings without changes, do not change anything in the window that opens, just specify the name of the file and the location to save it. To do this, use the standard dialog, which opens by clicking on the "Browse" button. Then click OK.

Step 6

In the next window of the Archiving Wizard, check the boxes in the list of mailboxes by selecting those that you want to move to a new location. The archive can be password protected. If necessary, check the box in the only checkbox of this form and type the password twice in the input fields. Click OK again and the program will start archiving. When it finishes, you will see a report - click OK to complete the wizard.

Step 7

Transfer the archive file to a new computer and after installing the mail client use the "Restore from backup" command from the "Tools" section of the program menu. This command opens a window in which you need to click the "Add" button, in the dialog that appears, find the file with the archive, select it and click on the "Open" button. The file name and date of its creation will appear in the list in the recovery wizard window - select this line and click OK.

Step 8

In the next window, the wizard will show a list of mailboxes, the archives of which are in the file - use the checkboxes to select only the ones you need and click OK. The program will recreate the mailboxes along with their contents and display a report - click OK again.
