The modern operating system Windows 7 provides ample opportunities for configuring system security and auditing changes in the system. All files and folders located on partitions have an established access policy. To see who owns a folder, go to its properties.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the location of the folder you are interested in in My Computer. Right-click on the picture of the folder, and then on the bottom item "Properties". The information window for the selected folder will open. Go to the Security tab and then click on the "Advanced" button to go to the advanced settings. Pay attention to the "Owner" tab of the opened window.
Step 2
The Current Owner field displays the name and group of the owner of the selected folder. The name and group are specified through a slash. The utility also offers the ability to change the owner of this folder to another computer user. To change the owner of the selected folder, select a user from the list provided or add another. To do this, click on the "Change" button and then "Other users and groups". Find the user you want using the built-in search option and then add to the list.
Step 3
It is worth noting that the owner of a folder is not always the creator of a folder. The owner automatically becomes the user who was authorized when the folder was created. However, some folders and files are influenced by the system or viruses. To track the activity of processes, you need to install a system monitoring program. You can also install special software that records all actions on the computer in real time.
Step 4
Look at the time the folder was created and compare with the program records. One of these utilities is Expert. You can find it on the website soft.ru. Install to the local drive of the operating system. Run the program and set a startup password. Then just turn off the computer. If you need to view which folders and by whom were created on the computer, open the program, enter the password and view the recorded screenshots.
