The architecture of modern operating systems presupposes the existence of a special class of software that performs service functions. As a rule, such software does not have a graphical interface and functions unnoticed by the user. In windows, such programs are called services. Services are often installed with distributions of various software. When you uninstall software, services are not always removed. In this case, it is worth considering how to remove the windows service manually.

Instructions

Step 1

Open the control panel. This can be done by clicking on the "Start" button on the taskbar and selecting successively the "Settings" and "Control Panel" items in the menu that appears.

Step 2

Go to the Administration folder window. In the list of control panel items, find the “Administration” shortcut and double-click on it with the left mouse button, or open the context menu with a single right-click and select “Open”. To make the search more convenient, you can switch the list to the "Table" display mode by selecting the item of the same name in the "View" section of the main menu, and then sort the list by the "Name" column.

Step 3

Open the Computer Management snap-in. In the Administrative Tools folder, find the Computer Management shortcut. Double-click the shortcut with the left mouse button or select the "Open" item in the context menu.

Step 4

Activate the control mode for the services running on the computer. Expand, if necessary, the Computer Management (Local) and Services and Applications branches of the hierarchy of available sections on the left. Highlight Services.

Step 5

Find the service you want to remove. In the list of services displayed on the right, search for the item corresponding to the desired service. Focus on the "Name" and "Description" fields for each item. For the convenience of searching, the list can be sorted by clicking on one of the sections of its header. Highlight the found item.

Step 6

Stop the service and disable its automatic start. Select Action and Properties from the menu. The service control dialog will appear. Switch to the General tab. Click the Stop button. Wait for the service to stop. Then select Disabled from the Startup Type drop-down list. Click the Apply button. Remember or copy the value from the "Executable" field. Click OK.

Step 7

Delete the service executable. Change to the directory with the file, the path to which was obtained from the "Executable file" field in the previous step. Use a file manager or Windows Explorer. Delete the file.

Step 8

Start Registry Editor. Click on the "Start" button in the taskbar. In the menu that appears, click on the "Run" item. In the "Run Program" dialog in the "Open" field, enter the line regedit and click the OK button.

Step 9

Delete the service information from the registry. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services. Find and select the subsection corresponding to the service to be removed. Be guided by the name of the section, or search by the symbolic name of the service by pressing the key combination Ctrl + F. Select the found section and delete it by pressing the Del button, or by selecting the "Edit" and "Delete" items in the menu.
