After reinstalling the operating system or installing a second OS on one computer, the system boot procedure changes. During the boot process, the OS may prompt you to choose one of the installed systems. Sometimes this list also contains links to OS that are no longer physically on the hard drives of the computer. There are ways to change the system configuration to exclude this selection menu from the OS boot log.
Instructions
Step 1
If you are running Windows 7 or Vista, then you can proceed as follows: first open the program launch dialog. To do this, press the WIN + R key combination or click the Start button and select Run from the main menu.
Step 2
In the "Run Program" dialog, type the command "msconfig" (without quotes). You can copy it from here and paste it into the input field (CTRL + C and CTRL + V). To execute this launch command, click the "OK" button or press the Enter key.
Step 3
In the "System Configuration" window that opens, go to the "Boot" tab. In it you will see the same OS list that is offered to you in the boot menu at system startup. Delete the extra lines and click "OK".
Step 4
There is an alternative option that can be used in both Windows 7 and Vista and Windows XP. After logging in, press the WIN + Pause keys. This action will launch the "System" information window (in Windows XP - "System Properties").
Step 5
For Windows XP, this step is not necessary, and for Windows 7 and Vista, there is an Advanced System Settings link in the left pane of this window - click it. This will open a window titled "System Settings".
Step 6
The system settings window will open by default on the "Advanced" tab, the lowest section of which is called "Startup and Recovery" (in any OS). Click the "Options" button in this section.
Step 7
In the next window, in the "Operating system loaded by default" drop-down list, select the one you need. After that, uncheck the box next to "Display a list of operating systems".
Step 8
It remains to press the "OK" button to commit the changes made in the OS configuration.
