Windows XP users have the option to change their login name. This can be done through the account, or by making the appropriate changes in the registry of the operating system.
Instructions
Step 1
Provide the name of the administrator and all users of the computer during the installation of the operating system. Wait for a special dialog box to appear, which prompts you to make the necessary settings. By taking this step, you will save yourself the need for additional steps after installing the system.
Step 2
Change the name using the Windows XP Administrator account. Click the "Start" button in the left corner of the screen, open "Control Panel" and select "User Accounts" from the menu.
Step 3
Click the Change Account button in the Select Action section. Click on "Select an account for changes". Click Change Name. Enter the new username in the appropriate field and click the Change Name button. Remember that such actions are allowed only to the computer administrator.
Step 4
Try changing the name through the operating system registry. Click Start, then Run. Type "Regedit" and press Enter. This will open the Windows Registry Editor. The required list of keys is displayed in the left pane. By clicking on them, you can edit various system parameters.
Step 5
Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Microsoft / Windows NT / CurrentVersion" and select the appropriate key. Double-click the RegisteredOwner value on the right side of the window to open a dialog box. Enter your desired username in the corresponding field. You can also change the company name that will accompany the owner's name on the screen by changing the RegisteredOrganization key. Close Registry Editor by clicking File, then Exit.
