Updating the software can be done either manually or by enabling the automatic update function. The same applies to ICQ clients.
Necessary
- - Internet connection;
- - web browser.
Instructions
Step 1
Open in a browser the page of the official website of the program that you use to communicate via the ICQ protocol. Find the section on the portal containing different versions of the program, if necessary, sort them by the time they were added and download the latest among them. If you do not download from the official support portal of the program, then be sure to check the client for viruses and malicious code.
Step 2
Run the exe file after shutting down ICQ on your computer. Select the menu item "Update old version", if one is provided by the installer. If not, then just install in the same folder where your previous version of the client was installed. In this case, all settings and parameters for logging into the account will be saved, and system files will automatically be replaced with new ones.
Step 3
If the previous sequence is not suitable for your client, first uninstall the old version in the Add / Remove Programs menu on the computer control panel. When choosing uninstallation options, it is best to select the "Quick uninstallation with preservation of user settings" item, while you do not have to change the program configuration again.
Step 4
Install the new version of the client in the same folder on the local drive of the computer where the old one was previously located. Run it, check if the settings are saved by opening the system configuration menu.
Step 5
If your client supports self-loading of the updated version, configure the automatic operation mode in the corresponding program configuration menu. However, it is best to manually update with a System Restore Point created, as many downloadable client versions are incomplete and can cause problems.
