Step 1
Click the Start button at the bottom left of the OS desktop. Find the "Run" button in the list that appears, and click on it. A black DOS window will open, in which you should enter the "regedit" command and press the Enter key on your keyboard. This action will bring up the system registry window, which consists of a large number of keys and subkeys.
Step 2
Go to the HKeyLocalMachine section by left clicking on it. In the tree structure that opens, in the same way, select the sections SOFTWARE, Microsoft, Windows (after the word "Windows" its version must be indicated, in this case - XP), CurrentVersion, WPAEvents. After the last section is opened, the OOBE Timer parameter will appear on the right side of the registry management window, which must be cleared.
Step 3
Run the special utility msoobe.exe from the system folder. In the window that appears, which offers to select the registration method, select the second item - "do not activate via the Network", and click on the continue button.
Step 4
In the next window, click on the "Activate" item, and enter a new correct serial number for Windows XP. You can find such a number on the disc box. Click the "Update" button, which is located on the right side of the window, and wait a while until the processes of installing a new serial number are closed.
Step 5
Restart or shut down your computer. After it is rebooted or turned on, if the condition of correctness of the serial number data is met, Windows XP will start to successfully start and work under the updated serial number.
