The procedure for disabling digital signature of drivers on computers running Windows is standard and does not require the use of any additional software.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button, and go to the "Run" dialog in order to disable the verification of the digital signature of the drivers. Type gpedit.msc in the "Open" line and confirm the launch of the Local Group Policy Editor utility by clicking OK.
Step 2
Expand the "User Configuration" link in the left pane of the dialog box that opens and go to the "Administrative Templates" section. Expand the System node and select the Driver Installation group. Find the line "Digital signature of device drivers" and open its context menu by clicking the right mouse button.
Step 3
Specify the "Modify" command and apply the check box in the "Disable" line in the next dialog box. Confirm your choice by clicking the "Apply" button and save the changes made by clicking the OK button. Please note that when you select the "Enable" option, it is possible to set the system behavior when an unsigned driver is detected:
- warn;
- skip;
- blocking.
Step 4
Before deciding to disable the digital signature verification of the installed driver, you should understand the potential danger of such an action for the system. The fact is that the main purpose of the driver is to provide interaction between the computer and all other devices. A digital signature is a certain guarantor of security. The absence or change of the digital signature may indicate a virus infection of this program or a substitution of the driver itself. Only a digital signature of the publisher, certified by a certification authority, can serve as a sufficient guarantee of the security of the driver being installed. An unsigned driver can only be used if it is obtained from the manufacturer's own licensed disc, although the final decision is always with the user.
