The Windows XP operating system includes a built-in function designed to quickly restore files and folders from an archive. It allows you to automatically save important information and access it in case of problems.
Instructions
Step 1
Turn on your Windows XP computer and wait until it boots. Go to the "Start" menu by clicking on the icon at the bottom left of the screen. Expand the contents of the Applications folder.
Step 2
Open the "Accessories" subdirectory and find the "System Tools" folder. Go to the "Data Archiving" directory. Select the advanced mode of the utility. Find the Media Recovery & Management tab at the top of the screen and open it.
Step 3
There are now several options for continuing the recovery procedure. If you've backed up or set up automatic archiving of important folders, select File and navigate to the desired archive.
Step 4
Select the file with the.bkf extension and click the "Next" button. Check the boxes next to the directories that need to be restored from the backup. Click the "Start" button and wait for the completed procedure to complete.
Step 5
If you need to restore specific files stored in the described directories, open the "Restore Files" tab. Select the type of program operation. Either use the standard options or specify the location of the new files yourself.
Step 6
To successfully restore the operating system settings, it is recommended to activate the "Always replace the file on the computer" item. This will allow the system to automatically overwrite the copies of the files. Use this function when recovering corrupted data.
Step 7
In the situation when you need to restore directories for which archiving has not been configured, use the Easy Recovery program. In this case, it is recommended to use the "Recover Deleted Data" function with the "Deep Scan" parameter.
