A macro is a small program in applications ranging from games to office tools. With the help of macros, you can significantly speed up, facilitate and make working with your computer more convenient. For example, in Excel spreadsheets, you have to do a hundred of the same things. This can be done manually, spending a lot of time, or it can be automated. It is for this purpose that macros are used - microprograms, for the creation of which you do not need to know programming.

Instructions

Step 1

Start Excel. When the table opens, click the "Service" button at the top of the window and select the "Macro" submenu, in which left-click the "Start recording" line. This description is exactly for Microsoft Excel 2003, but the steps are similar in other versions.

Step 2

A window titled "Record Macro" appears. In the first line, specify a name so that you can distinguish one macro from another and, without running it, know what the purpose of this firmware has.

Step 3

Below the name, set a shortcut button, it can be any key in combination with the "Ctrl" button. Also choose a save location. To do this, select one of the options in the drop-down list: "This Book", "Personal Macro Book" or "New Book". If you want the recorded sequence of operations to be available from any Excel document, select the Personal Macro Book option. Another option is to save the macro in the document to which it will usually be applied, then choose the "This Book" option.

Step 4

The last field is the description string. Write down briefly the purpose of the macro - then it will be more convenient to use it. You can leave the field blank.

Step 5

Click OK to start recording. A button to stop recording will appear on the screen, it looks like a blue square. Start performing the actions that you want to save as a macro: change the font size, create table borders, copy cell values, that is, all those same operations that you usually do with a document.

Step 6

When done, click the blue square - the stop recording button. Or you can click the Tools menu again, then Macro. At the place where the line "Start recording" was, there will be a reverse command "Stop recording".

Step 7

Close your table. When prompted to save the changes made in the document and in the personal macro book, click the "Yes" button. In this case, your macro will be recorded and can be executed at any time.

Step 8

To test, reopen your Excel spreadsheet or create a new spreadsheet document. Press the keyboard shortcut set for the saved macro. If you did everything correctly, all the actions that you performed during recording will be performed very quickly on the screen. Experiment - and your work with the computer will become much more comfortable.
