Icons in Windows operating systems refer to graphical displays of files, folders, applications, or shortcuts. Icons in Windows 7 are found on the taskbar, on the desktop, in the Start menu, and in Windows Explorer windows.
Instructions
Step 1
To resize desktop icons in Windows 7, close or minimize all running applications, open folders, and dialog boxes. To minimize all windows at once, click the Minimize All Windows button located on the far right of the Windows taskbar.
Step 2
Right-click anywhere on your desktop that is free of shortcuts, folder and file icons, widgets, and gadgets. A context menu for basic desktop settings will appear.
Step 3
In the context menu that opens, move the mouse cursor over the "View" line. An additional list will appear with settings for the appearance and display of desktop icons and gadgets.
Step 4
In the list that appears, place a check mark opposite the line "Small icons" by clicking on it with the left mouse button once. After that, the icons of shortcuts, folders, files and programs displayed on the desktop will become small.
Step 5
To reduce the size of the icons on the taskbar, right-click on it once. The context menu for the taskbar and start menu options settings will open.
Step 6
In the list that appears, select the "Properties" line by clicking on it once with the left mouse button. The Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box opens. In this window, activate the "Taskbar" tab by clicking on it with the left mouse button once.
Step 7
In the "Design of the taskbar" section of the open tab, check the box next to the line "Use small icons" by clicking on the empty square next to the line once with the left mouse button. Then press the "Apply" and "OK" buttons sequentially. The icons available on the Windows taskbar will become smaller.
Step 8
To use small icons in Windows Explorer windows, open any directory (folder) containing icons of any files, subfolders, applications and shortcuts.
Step 9
Right-click once on the icon-free viewport of the open window. The context menu for the folder display settings will open.
Step 10
In the menu that appears, move the mouse cursor over the line "View" and in the expanded sub-list select the line "Small icons". After that, the icons displayed in the explorer windows will become small.
