If you need to change the application that processes this or that file, you should change the extension of this file - it is on this basis that the operating system determines the handler program. It is undesirable to do this "manually", since changing the letters alone without changing the format of the recorded data may not be enough. But if you are sure that editing the internal structure of the file is not required, then the procedure will not be particularly difficult.

Instructions
Step 1
To be able to change the file extension, you must enable its display in the Windows file manager. By default, this option is disabled, and to change it, you need to call one of the OS "Control Panel" components on the screen. In Windows 7 and Windows Vista it is convenient to do this using the internal search engine - open the main menu and start typing the word "folder" on the keyboard. After the first three letters, you can end up with this and activate the "Folder Options" link in the search results list. This can also be done from the keyboard - just press the Enter key.
Step 2
The setting for displaying file extensions has been placed on the "View" tab - go to it and in the "Additional options" list, find the line "Hide extensions for registered file types". Check the box next to this box and click OK.
Step 3
Navigate to the file you want to change the extension using Windows Explorer. By default, the link to its launch is fixed on the taskbar of the latest versions of the operating system, but you can also use the combination of "hot keys" Win + E. Having found the desired file, enable the edit mode for its name, using either the item "Rename" in the context menu, or the functional F2 button on your computer keyboard. Move the insertion cursor to the end of the name (End key) and edit the extension. Then turn off edit mode by pressing the Enter key.
Step 4
You can use the file properties window to change the extension. To call it, right-click the desired object and select the bottom line - "Properties" in the context menu. The full name of the file is placed in the edit field on the "General" tab of the properties window - correct the extension in it and click the OK button.
