Many users have faced a situation when the computer refuses to boot. What to do in this situation in order not only to restore the normal operation of the computer, but also not to lose the files stored on the hard disk?
Instructions
Step 1
The reasons why the computer refuses to boot can be different. First of all, these may be problems with the "hardware" - in this case, the computer screen may remain pristine black or report the absence of a signal. Repairing the system unit is beyond the scope of this article, so consider the situation when a window with the initial information appears on the computer screen with the most common OS Windows XP, after which the download stops.
Step 2
First, try restarting your computer again by pressing "Ctrl + alt=" Image "+ Del" or, if this does not help, the "Reset" button on the system unit of the computer. At the laptop, you need to press the start button and hold it for a few seconds. When the reboot has begun, press the F8 key with a frequency of the order of once every two seconds, or a little more often. A window with a choice of boot options should appear. Select the "Load Last Known Good Configuration" option.
Step 3
In many cases, this is enough for the computer to work properly. If not, repeat the previous step and select the "Boot in Safe Mode" option. If the computer has booted, try to make it work normally through the recovery service: "Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore". But for this you must have a previously created restore point.
Step 4
If there is no restore point, try rebooting again - after working in safe mode, the computer may be restored. Chances are small, but they are. If it does not help, then the easiest way is not to waste time restoring the computer with various utilities, but simply start reinstalling Windows from Safe Mode, having previously saved the data that is important for you. When reinstalling, select the update mode, this will preserve all your settings and installed programs. Of course, you must have a Windows boot disk to reinstall.
Step 5
There are situations when the computer does not boot even in safe mode. In this case, you need a Live CD, an operating system that boots directly from the disc. Restart your computer, choose to boot from the CD-ROM drive - for this, for many computers, you need to press F12 at startup and select the desired option in the window that opens. If it does not work, you must choose to boot from CD in the BIOS. Different buttons can be used to enter BIOS on different computers - Del, F1, F2, Ctrl + alt="Image" + Esc and others. After choosing to boot from CD, do not forget to save the changes - item “Save and Exit Setup”. Select it and type "y", then press "Enter".
Step 6
Booting from the Live CD will not save your system, but you will be able to save important data. Then you will have to reinstall the OS, which after saving the data is no longer so scary. If you have two or more hard disks on your computer, just install another OS on any free disk to save information. Two operating systems on the computer will reliably insure you against any surprises.
