Step 1

If you are using the operating system Windows XP, then follow the next sequence of steps. Log in using your computer's administrator account. Open the My Computer menu. Find the folder for which you want to change ownership.

Right-click on the desired folder. Select Properties. Now go to the "Security" tab. If a warning window appears, click the "OK" button.

Now find the "Advanced" button at the bottom of the menu that opens and go to the "Owner" tab. Find the Name menu and enter the name of the user you want to take ownership. Now check the box next to the "Replace owner of attached files and folders" option. Now press the "Ok" button and confirm the process of changing the owner by pressing the "Yes" button.

If the folder contains a large number of files, the process of changing the owner may take several minutes. Configure the settings for accessing the directory after obtaining access rights to it.

Step 5

If you are using the Windows Seven operating system, press the Start and E keys at the same time. Find the folder for which you want to change ownership. Click on it with the right mouse button and select "Properties".
