When working with fragments of text, files, folders displayed as a list, and in some other cases, you may need to select several lines at the same time. The selection methods are the same in almost all programs. For this operation, you can use only the mouse, only the keyboard, or mouse and keyboard at the same time.
Instructions
Step 1
To select several lines in the text using the mouse, place the cursor at the beginning of the fragment. Press and hold the left mouse button while moving the cursor over the area you want to select. At the end of the fragment, release the mouse button. The selected part of the text will remain highlighted.
Step 2
To select multiple lines using the keyboard, place the cursor at the beginning of the fragment using the arrow keys. Press and hold the Shift key while pressing the right arrow key. Each press of the arrow selects one printable text character to the right of the cursor. To select entire words, hold down the Ctrl key while pressing the Shift key.
Step 3
Sometimes there are times when a piece of text or a list is too large. Then you can refuse line-by-line selection, marking only the beginning and end of the fragment. Position the mouse cursor at the beginning of the selected list or paragraph, press and hold the Shift key and click once with the left mouse button at the end of the selection. All text between the specified positions will be highlighted.
Step 4
In cases where it is required to select lines that are not adjacent to each other, the mouse and keyboard are also used. While holding down the left mouse button, select the first line, then release the button. Press the Ctrl key on the keyboard and, while holding it, select the next line in the place you need using the left mouse button. Repeat the operation as many times as necessary.
Step 5
In text editors, the mouse cursor can change its appearance at the left edge of the page in the margin area. When the cursor takes the form of an arrow, a single click of the left mouse button selects at once the entire line opposite which the cursor is located. Moving the mouse cursor up or down the left margin while holding the left button, you can also select the required number of lines.
