The operating system needs a paging file when the RAM is no longer enough. Very often, when playing a new video game, you can get into a situation where a notification appears that there is not enough memory for the game and you need to increase the paging file. Also, if for some reason you run several large programs at the same time, you may notice that the computer has begun to work much slower. To normalize your PC, you need to give the paging file a larger size.
Necessary
a computer with Windows OS (XP, Windows 7)
Instructions
Step 1
To set the paging file size yourself, follow these steps. Owners of computers running Windows XP need to do this. Click on "My Computer" with the right mouse button. Select Properties from the context menu. After that go to the "Advanced" tab. In it, find the "Performance" section and click the "Options" button. Now select "Advanced" again. Next, find the "Virtual Memory" section and select "Change".
Step 2
A window will appear where you can manually set the paging file size. In this window, find the line "Custom size" and mark it with the left mouse button. Now you can assign the size of the paging file. You have two lines available: "Original size" and "Maximum size". In these lines, you need to write the same value. If the size of the RAM on the computer is less than two gigabytes, then it is recommended to set the value 4096 megabytes, but if the memory size is two or more gigabytes, then 2048 should be enough. After this parameter is registered, click "Set" and OK at the bottom of the window. Close all windows by clicking OK in turn.
Step 3
In the case of the Windows 7 operating system, the difference is only in the final stage. When you open the "Virtual Memory" window, you will need to uncheck the box next to the item "Automatically select the size of the paging file". After that, check the box "Specify size" and write the same value in two lines. Click OK. The window will close. Thus, close all other windows. Also at the bottom of the "Virtual Memory" window, you can see the system recommendations for the amount of paging file size that should be installed.
