The main disadvantage of the PC as a platform for games is the fantastic variety of configurations: developers have to create support for hundreds of video cards and dozens of different processors for their products. Obviously, it is almost impossible to perfectly cope with such a task, which in most cases leads to game freezes and other kinds of bugs.

Step 1
Check the system requirements for the game. If the image on the screen is jerky after launching the product, then the main reason for this is that it does not meet the minimum system requirements. Especially often users encounter this problem when launching the latest generation games (for example, Battlefield 3). The solution is to update the hardware of your PC: change the video card model, buy a new processor or install additional RAM. In addition, you can try changing the OS to a less resource-demanding one (games on Windows 7 give about 70% of the FPS on Windows XP). Also, it does not hurt to "clean" the system from viruses and unnecessary information.
Step 2
Look for fresh patches. If the product freeze is fatal (makes it impossible to play further), then it is probably only a temporary problem that the publishers are already working on. In addition, the freeze can be caused by poor compatibility with some of your hardware (for example, Silent Hill: Homecoming does not carry ATI). Such bugs are quickly registered by game developers and fans, so one or the other quickly find a solution and post the corresponding "patch" on the official website.
Step 3
Try installing a different version of the game. It often happens that the installer is damaged or incorrect, which causes errors during subsequent use of the product. The reason may be an incorrectly applied crack, a poorly working modification or an amateur add-on - in this case, the user should purchase a licensed copy of the original game, because it contains only tested and stable components.
Step 4
Install any additional programs offered during installation. In 90% of cases, this software is vital for stable operation: it can be fresh drivers, additional services (like Microsoft Framework) and support clients (Steam, GameSPY). In particular, installing a newer version of the Nvidia drivers that came with the game consistently fixes graphical freezes.
