The process of formatting a hard disk, or volume, of a computer is customary to name the setting of the selected disk in accordance with the required file system for storing information by standard means of the Microsoft Windows operating system. Performing the format operation assumes that you are using a computer administrator account.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main menu of the system by pressing the "Start" button and go to the "Control Panel" item to initiate the procedure for creating and formatting the selected disk.
Step 2
Expand the link "System and its maintenance" and specify the sub-item "Administration".
Step 3
Open the "Computer Management" node by double-clicking the mouse and confirm your computer administrator privileges by entering the password in the request window that opens.
Step 4
Select the "Disk Management" section in the navigation area of the application window next to "Storage device" and open the context menu of the unallocated space of the required volume by right-clicking.

Specify the command "Create Simple Volumes Wizard" and click the "Next" button in the opened wizard dialog box.

Specify the desired size for the volume to be created and click the "Next" button in the new dialog box.

Select the desired lettering value for the selected volume and press the Next button again to confirm your choice.

Click the "Next" button in the "Formatting section" dialog box that opens to execute the formatting command and confirm the application of the selected operation parameters by clicking the "Finish" button.

Return to the main menu "Start" and go to the item "Control Panel" to perform the operation to format an existing hard disk.

Expand the link "System and its maintenance" and select the item "Administration".

Open the "Computer Management" node by double-clicking the mouse and specify the administrator password in the request window that opens.

Select the "Disk Management" command and open the context menu of the volume to be formatted.

Select Format and click OK to confirm the formatting operation with default settings in the new Format dialog box.

Confirm the application of the selected changes by pressing the OK button again.
