The software in Windows operating systems is installed in the directories initially specified by the user during installation. The user can move programs and applications to other folders. This is usually done in order to increase free space on one of the local disks or to facilitate access to the program.
Instructions
Step 1
For easier access to the application, open the folder containing the program startup file (usually, this file has the.exe extension).
Step 2
Right click once on the application executable file. The context menu for actions on the file will appear.
Step 3
In the context menu, move the mouse cursor over the "Send" line and hold it in place until a menu appears with the options for sending a file.
Step 4
Select the line "Desktop (Create shortcut)". The operating system will create a shortcut for the selected application on the desktop.
Step 5
Close or minimize all open windows and programs. On the desktop, find the created program shortcut icon and right-click on it once.
Step 6
In the context menu that appears, select the "Rename" line, and the text of the shortcut name will be highlighted. Enter a new label name of your choice.
Step 7
To increase the amount of free space on one of the local drives, open the Start menu. In the list on the right, click the line "Control Panel".
Step 8
In the list of system settings settings, click the line "Programs and Features". The "Uninstall and change a program" window will open.
Step 9
In the list of applications installed on your computer, find the line with the name of the application that you want to move to another folder, and right-click on it once.
Step 10
In the context menu that appears, select the "Change" line. The Add, Change and Remove Programs wizard will start.
Step 11
In the window that opens, click the "Change" or "Modify" button. The installation wizard will provide an opportunity to select a new directory for placing and add or remove individual components of the program.
Step 12
Select a new folder where the program is located by clicking the "Browse …" button and click "Ok".
Step 13
You can also change the location of the program by removing all of its components from the computer and reinstalling them again, specifying the location directory required by the user.
Step 14
If the program that needs to be moved to another folder is portable (that is, it does not require installation on a computer), then it can be moved using standard Windows operating system tools (the “Cut” and “Paste” functions in the context menu of the program folder).
