Step 1
First, disconnect all devices from the computer and remove the side cover of the system unit. Place the system unit in such a position to get the most convenient access to the motherboard.

Locate the SATA connector on the motherboard. It is to it that modern hard drives are connected. Usually SATA connectors are located in the lower right corner of the motherboard.
Step 3
If you want to replace a failed hard drive with a new one, then you must first remove the old hard drive from the bay. To do this, disconnect the SATA cable and power cord from it. If the device is fastened with bolts, then, accordingly, they should be unscrewed. Next, install a new hard drive. If you want to install an additional hard drive, then simply insert it into the free bay.

The very process of connecting the hard drive to the motherboard looks like this. Insert one end of the SATA cable into the SATA connector on the system board. Connect the other end of this cable to the hard drive and connect power to it.
Step 5
The power supply must have a wire with a power connector to connect to SATA devices. This connector is black. There should be no difficulties, as no other power cable will fit a SATA hard drive. Now all you need to do is start your computer. The operating system will automatically initialize the hard drive and install the necessary drivers.
Step 6
To connect older models of ATA hard drives, you must use the appropriate connector. The connection procedure itself is no different from connecting a SATA hard drive. For this, an ATA loop is used. Multiple devices can be connected to the ATA interface, but it is not recommended to connect a hard disk or optical drive to it. In this case, you will have to use special jumpers.
